Q&A with Laura – Our New Head Of Marketing

Laura joins Hyperext as our Head Of Marketing

At Hyperext, we believe that great marketing is about innovation, creativity, and delivering real impact. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Laura Murphy to our team!

With over 15 years of experience in marketing strategy, brand development, and digital solutions, Laura has worked with Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and BSkyB, managing accounts for iTunes, Spotify, Netflix, and more. She also founded Isherwood Media Group, where she helped SMEs break the mould through disruptive marketing, digital automation, and strategic branding.

To get to know Laura a little better, we sat down for a quick Q&A about her background, her approach to marketing, and what excites her most about joining Hyperext.

Q: What excites you most about joining Hyperext?

Laura: I’m really excited to work with Steve and the team. Their customer service is absolutely second to none, and I love how Hyperext is focused on solutions that truly make a difference for businesses.

Stepping into the tech space is a fantastic opportunity. I’ve worked across entertainment, media, and digital marketing, but I’m excited to soak up knowledge from the team and apply my experience in a whole new industry. Tech is fast-moving and innovative, and that energy is what really draws me in.

Q: You’ve worked with major global brands like Sony Pictures and Sony Music. How does that experience shape your approach to marketing?

Laura: Working with Sony Music and Sony Pictures gave me an incredible understanding of how to position products and services in a competitive market. Whether it was developing promotional campaigns for iTunes and Spotify or managing output for BSkyB and Netflix, I learned that marketing is all about connecting the right audience with the right message, at the right time.

Sony Music, in particular, was a really collaborative space—there was no such thing as a bad idea, which gave me the room and confidence to share creative concepts and see them come to life. It was hugely rewarding to take a vision from idea to execution and watch it make an impact. That’s something I’m excited to bring to Hyperext—making sure our marketing strategies are targeted, engaging, and results-driven while encouraging new and bold ideas.

Q: You founded Isherwood Media Group—what was that experience like?

Laura: Isherwood Media Group was all about disruptive marketing and breaking the mould. I worked with SMEs to develop digital strategies, build brands, and introduce automation tools that increased productivity and streamlined workflows.

For many businesses, marketing can feel overwhelming, so I focused on simplifying the process—helping clients implement smart, automated solutions that let them focus on creativity and growth rather than admin and inefficiencies. That’s something I love about Hyperext too—tech that empowers businesses to work smarter, not harder.

Q: You’ve worked with developers in previous roles – what’s that like?

Laura: I worked with development teams at Hampton Associates, and honestly, it was an absolute blast. Developers are some of the smartest, most hyper-focused people I’ve worked with, but what’s fascinating is that so many of them are incredibly laid-back at the same time!

I have huge respect for anyone in this field—the way they problem-solve, build, and create is incredible. I’m really looking forward to working more closely with Hyperext’s tech team and learning even more about product development and digital solutions.

Q: Hyperext puts a big focus on company culture—how does that align with your way of working?

Laura: One of the things that really stood out to me about Hyperext is the leadership and team culture. Steve fosters an environment where wins are celebrated, and everyone supports each other, which is exactly how I love to work.

We have weekly team celebrations, where we recognise achievements, share successes, and keep morale high. I truly believe that a strong, supportive team dynamic is what drives success, and Hyperext really embodies that.

As a working mother, work-life balance is critical for me, and it’s refreshing to be part of a company that values flexibility and diversity. The culture here is progressive and accommodating, and when people feel supported in both their professional and personal lives, they perform at their best. That’s something I really appreciate.

Q: What’s one thing people might not know about you?

Laura: I love Mexican food! Give me some tacos, guacamole, or a good burrito, and I’m happy. If there’s ever a team lunch that involves spicy salsa, count me in.

Q: Final thoughts – what are you most looking forward to at Hyperext?

Laura: Just getting stuck in! I’m excited to bring my experience in marketing, content, and brand strategy to Hyperext, but also to learn from the incredible team here. The work they’re doing is innovative and forward-thinking, and I can’t wait to be part of the journey.

📢 Welcome to the team, Laura! We’re excited to see how your expertise helps shape the future of Hyperext.
